Clik here to view.PC Molloy (Lochlann Ó Mearáin) is a Booker Prize-winning author with a bad case of writer’s block that’s left him unable to complete his second novel for over a decade. Snobby, self-absorbed and completely out of touch with current affairs Molloy supports himself teaching university poetry classes. All that changes when his publishing house is sold and his new boss is April Devereaux (Aoibhinn McGinnity) the editor of the weekly gossip magazine Poison Pen. Shocked into reality Molloy finds himself with two choices, write for the magazine or deliver his unfinished novel; turns out Molloy has a talent for interviewing the vain and famous.
This is the first screenplay by Eoin Colfer, author of the fantasy-adventure series Artemis Fowl. Poison Pen was directed by Jennifer Shortall, Lorna Fitzsimons and Steven Benedict as part of the Masters in Digital Film Production at Filmbase and was produced by Sharon Cronin and Aine Coady.
Poison Pen is the second feature produced through Filmbase and was awarded first prize at the 2014 Green Film Making Competition for European Students which was announced at The Netherlands Film Festival’s masterclass Green Filmmaking: The Future of Producing. The Green Film Making completion is an initiative that challenges filmmakers to rethink their production process and encourages young filmmakers across Europe to produce their films as sustainably as possible, while coming up with new and innovative solutions for lighting, transportation, art departments, craft services and over-all production.
